Breaking Dawn is divided into three parts. The first part begins just before Bella and Edward’s wedding. The couple gets married without any problems other than the fact that Jacob shows up during the reception upset. After the wedding, the newlyweds spend their honeymoon on Isle Esme, a private island off the coast of Brazil. There, Bella and Edward enjoy themselves and Bella’s wish to have sex with Edward before becoming a vampire comes true. Two weeks into their honeymoon, while Edward is away hunting one night, Bella awakes, eats some chicken, and begins to puke. Assuming it was simply bad chicken, she throws it away. She continues getting ill until she finally realizes what day it is. Between being five days late for her period, this strange sickness, and the weird dreams she has been having, Bella comes to the conclusion that she is pregnant.
Written by Ashley aka wolf. The news surprises both Bella and Edward because they thought this was impossible. After contacting Carlisle, Bella and Edward immediately return home to Forks. Edward, concerned for Bella’s life, is convinced the fetus is a monster as it continues to develop at an unnaturally accelerated rate. This prompts him to urge her to have an abortion. However, Bella feels a pull towards the child, so she refuses and contacts Rosalie, who has always wanted a child. Book two of Breaking Dawn is told from Jacob Black’s perspective throughout Bella’s pregnancy and childbirth. Jacob believes that Bella has been turned into a vampire during her honeymoon with Edward and is ready to attack. However, Sam, the Alpha of the pack, votes for peace. Jacob rushes to the Cullen’s house where he finds a very sick and pregnant Bella. Edward explains the situation to Jacob and he reports back to the pack what he has discovered. Not knowing what danger the unborn half-vampire child may pose, the pack makes plans to destroy the creature even though they must destroy Bella in order to prevent its birth. Naturally, Jacob is strongly opposed and protests this decision, as he does not want Bella to die. Therefore, Jacob breaks away from the pack and soon starts a new pack with Seth and Leah Clearwater. He warns the Cullens of the werewolves’ plan to attack and helps the vampires by patrolling the perimeter of their land. Sam decides not to attack now because they have lost the element of surprise and have a smaller pack. Edward and Jacob do not agree on much but they both do agree that the baby will kill Bella and both want to save her. However, Bella has enlisted the help of Rosalie to protect the baby. Four weeks into her pregnancy, Bella gives birth, during which, the baby breaks many bones and Bella loses massive amounts of blood. Bella’s heart stops and in order to save her life, Edward injects his venom into her heart and changes her into a vampire. Jacob, who was present at the time of the childbirth, thinks Bella is dead. He storms downstairs with the intent to kill the child. However, right when he sees the baby’s face, he imprints. Part three begins with Bella’s transformation into a vampire. Even though the pain is intolerable, she forces herself not to scream or move so it will not upset Edward. After only two days, the transformation is complete. Although everyone is wary of Bella’s newborn strength and rage, she is calm. Bella and Edward go hunting in nearby woods. Bella smells stray hikers, but instead of attacking, she holds her breath and runs in the opposite direction, away from the smell. Everyone is shocked by her actions because even mature vampires have trouble doing this but they suppose Bella’s control may be due to the fact that she has been preparing herself for her transformation into a vampire for so long. Because of her control, they allow her to see her child, Renesmee, who is downstairs with Jacob. Renesmee is only a few hours old but looks months old and is very alert and “talking” in her own special way. She has a power that allows her to communicate with others through pictures and memories by touching someone’s face with her hand. Bella becomes furious when she soon learns that Jacob has not only imprinted on Renesmee, but has nicknamed her Nessie, after the Loch Ness Monster. Later, Bella, Jacob, and Rensmee are hunting in nearby woods when Irinia, a vampire from the Denali clan who fell for Laurent sees them. Irinia misidentifies Renesmee as an immortal child, a child who has been turned into a vampire and soon after Alice has a vision that Irinia goes to the Volturi who have outlawed the creation of immortal children because they are uncontrollable. The Volturi make the decision to come to Forks and destroy Rosalie and the Cullens. The Cullens decide that the only way to stall the Volturi long enough to explain is to build a following of their own to witness for them. Alice and Jasper suddenly disappear without reason and Alice leaves a note with Sam from the copyright page of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice. Bella sees this as a sign to her since it was her copy of the book and when she goes to get her book she finds Alice left an address on another page. Bella goes to the address, which is the office of a lawyer who can forge fake documents and buys fake documents for Jacob and Renesmee just in case they need to escape. Meanwhile, in an attempt to survive, the Cullen family enlists the help of fellow vampires from all over the world and they start to arrive at the Cullen’s house. All take a liking to Renesmee and agree to bear witness to the Volturi that she is not an immortal child. For months, the vampires prepare for the confrontation with the Volturi and Bella also discovers that her power of mind-privacy has a shielding effect that she can extend to include others. The Volturi finally come and all of the vampires, as well as the werewolves meet in a clearing in the forest. The Volturi discover that they have been misinformed by Irinia and as punishment for her mistake, they execute her. However, they are still unsure on whether Renesmee poses a threat to the vampire’s secret existence. The Volturi also want to fight and take the vampires with gifts for themselves. Bella’s power disables the Volturi’s offensive fighters, Alec and Jane, by shielding everyone on her side. Aro, Caius, and Marcus plan on voting on whether or not Renesmee will be a danger. In the \meantime, Alice and Jasper show up. They have returned with a half-vampire, half-human, like Renesmee, South America who is now one hundred and fifty years old. Nahuel proves that crossbreeds pose no threat and the Volturi leave Forks, but before they do so they reveal that the so-called werewolves are not actually werewolves, but rather “shape shifters,” who adapted to only be able to shift into wolf forms. The vampires celebrate their victory. Bella and Edward go back to their own house with Renesmee. In their bedroom, Bella pushes her shield away and brings specific memories and special moments to mind that she wants Edward to finally be able to see from her perspective to show just how deeply she loves him. The two end up kissing and the books ends. |
